Soft Top Restoration and Treatment
An increasingly popular service, cost effective and completed at your home during the summer months, normally lasts for 18 months, longer if the vehicle is covered during the winter.
I only use bio-degradeable & non-caustic chemicals, and some additional natural solutions.
Equipment and Material
Preparation
Goal: To clean and treat the fabric, ensure that spores are dead and removed, before adding a new sealant.
- Cleaner: Bilt Hamber Surf-ex and deionised water 1:20 ratio - Applied liberally and scrubbed with a Tampico cleaning brush. Left to dwell for 30 minutes before cleaning, and wet vacummed to remove excessive water.
- Tee Tree oil and White Vinegar: Heavy-duty, anti-fungal soft top cleaning (Tee Tree, Vinegar, De-ionised Water) 1:120:120, which is approx. 2 teaspoons of tea tree oil, 1 cup of white vinegar, and 1 cup of deionised water. Brush into fabric with Tampico brush and dwell for 45 minutes and then invigorate further to work into the fibres.
- Rinsing: Rinse librerally to remove trace vinegar, wet vacuum and allow to dry in the open air before applying the weatherproofing sealant.
Sealant / Protection
- Gtechniq I1 Smart Fabric AB v3 : Best sealant on the market, with 4x durability, Smart Fabric uses nano technology to cover the individual fibres, sealing from liquids while allowing the fabric to breath. Includes active ingrediants with antimicrobial technology which kills 99% of bacteria on treated surfaces, hence the 4x durability.
- Process : Applied generously in sections and worked into the fabric with a soft brush, and allow to dry naturally.
- Housekeeping: Clean and reseal all glass.
- Time: The process takes about 10 - 12 hours, and sometimes into a second day with larger vehicles.
Prices below relate to the fabric size, £90 being a Mini, BMW 3 Series, Porsche Boxter ext., increaing to £180 for larger fabric surface area, e.g. Audi 5/7 etc.
