Headlight Restoration
Over time, clear polycarbonate headlight lenses degrade from harsh UV rays, road debris, and chemical exposure. This breaks down the factory protective topcoat, turning the lenses yellow, cloudy, or heavily pitted. Not only does this look poor, it drastically blocks light output—making night driving unsafe and frequently causing an MOT failure.
Rather than spending hundreds on replacement light units, my mobile restoration process completely cuts away the damaged top layers and seals the plastic back to a factory-clear finish.
The Restoration Process:
- Precision Wet-Sanding: I progress through a meticulous wet-and-dry sanding stage, starting at 800 grit, moving to 1200 and 2000 grit, and finishing with a specialised 3M Trizact 3000 grit.
- Artisan Care: Sanding plastic requires immense patience. If checking the lenses shows that deep stone chips or cracks have compromised the structural integrity of the unit, I will advise you honestly. You pay for my skills, but you also pay for my care.
- Long-Term Protection: I finish the process by applying a double coat of a professional 3M UV Clear Coat wipe, protecting the clarity for 1 to 2 years.
Maintenance & Durability:
The lifespan of the restoration can be extended significantly by parking out of intense, direct sunlight. Better yet, for my regular maintenance wash customers, I apply a dedicated UV-protective detailing product every 8 to 12 weeks, extending the lens clarity potentially indefinitely.
